Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. The Department was established in 2009 and at present, it runs undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering (Specialized in Hydropower Engineering), Mining Engineering and Architecture. In addition to the undergraduate programs, the Department also runs Master level programs in Structural Engineering and Sanitation Technology. The Department also runs MS by research programs and Ph.D. programs in Civil Engineering. My team of faculties and staff is always on the front line to give our best.
As the University’s slogan reads ‘Quality Education for Leadership’, ever since the establishment of our department, we are primarily focused on the alignment to achieve excellence. The country like Nepal’s basic need at present is infrastructure development and programs like Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Architecture, Structural Engineering and Sanitation Technology are of foremost importance in building up the capacity for the development. Each course is designed with special care such that the students would be experts in the Design and Construction sectors of Hydropower, Building, Sanitation, Tunneling, Hydraulics, Rock Mechanics, Earthquake Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Architecture, Landscaping, Planning etc. Besides, project works in almost all the semesters are provided to our students making them learn the real engineering practice through innovative idea hunting within themselves. We also are keen believers that the students are the future of the country who build the nation as well as the globe. Their entrepreneurial capacity building is also another aspect that the department looks for.
The final semester in the Civil Engineering programs is specifically programmed for internship and major projects to make our students strong through research and practical approaches. The architecture program is focused on Mountain Architecture, which is more dedicated to preserving the innovative architectural knowledge available in the country. The amalgamation of architectural technology with excellent and beautiful traditional skills definitely shall produce smart structures through Architectural knowledge. The laboratories are essential components for engineering knowledge transfer and we put extra care for it. In addition, our students are motivated by research activities too. Extra-curricular activities are definitely not left out to make our students’ stay memorable and full of fun. Students are motivated through the Clubs to enhance their leadership capacity. A lot of academic and non academic events are other bright sides of the department which helps our students come up with sharp innovative ideas.
